Bye, y'all =)

I'm officially ending this Little Rock Daily photoblog. I've enjoyed my little excursion into the blogosphere and dabbling a bit with photography. And I have especially LOVED getting to know some of you at City Daily Photo!

Now I'm ready to sit back, relax, and enjoy summer at home with all the kids. I find Little Rock to be a great place to raise children. We'll be hitting all the parks, pools, libraries, museums, and of course, Sonic!

I'll leave you with some links of why I love Arkansas:

Oh, Sweet Jesus

So, we finally tried Larry's Pizza the other day. We wanted a place with an arcade for the kids to play in so the hubby and I could just sit and relax at dinner for at least one glorious minute. We were not disappointed!

We paid upfront for an all-you-can-eat experience (pretty reasonable and two of our kids were FREE!) There was a salad buffet and waitresses coming by with breadsticks and an endless variety of pizzas. Think Vegas scene from The Lightning Thief: "More lotus flowers, Mr. Jackson?"

The only odd thing, at least for this secular-leaning gal, was the gospel music playing overhead. In a restaurant? That was a first! But, as soon as they brought out the chocolate chip cookie pizza, I got it. Nodding solemnly...I got it.

Day at the Farm

Today, I thoroughly enjoyed "gettin' back to the land" and leaving city life (more like suburban life) behind...if only for a few hours. It was field trip day to a farm, about a 45 minute drive from Little Rock just on the outskirts of Conway. This was shot off the back of a hayride. The country smells were intoxicating and so refreshing! I think I've found my calling. Of course, I don't want to do any of the work. Just sit around on a wrap-around porch with some sweet tea and pet the animals. Would that be wrong?!

Mother's Day at the Movies

The family took me to see The Avengers for my Mother's Day treat. Sure, it's no spa package, but it's the closest thing to pampering I can get these days in a house where kids outnumber adults :)

American Recovery Act

There's a new fire station being built on Taylor Loop, thanks to the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. This means more jobs, both currently and upcoming. I'd say I'm pretty optimistic about the future, despite whisperings of Mayan calendars and zombies.

i love hillcrest

I love the Hillcrest neighborhood. It's one of Little Rock's first established neighborhoods (back then it was considered a suburb and on the outskirts of the city!)so I thought a little b&w was in order.

Even this garage is lovely to me, all nestled in among the ivy. Plus, the honeysuckle is in bloom everywhere. How sweet it is!

Jump Zone

It's been a looooong day. Took the kids to 2 birthday parties (one of them here at the Jump Zone in Maumelle). It's pretty much a nicely carpeted warehouse filled with bounce houses. Even the grown ups can jump & slide (yay!) down the jumbo slides. (well, we need SOME kind of workout after all the birthday cake & ice cream that's been consumed today)

I'm completely worn out I can't even believe I'm posting this

Art, Books, Coffee...let the festivities begin!

The Arkansas Literary Festival officially starts today. If I could, I would be hanging out downtown ALL. WEEKEND. LONG. There is so much going on! Jumbo Gumbo, for one (and really, I don't need any other enticements than that). But throw in first-rate authors, chefs, artists, musicians, and man! can it get any better?!!

Shown here is the Cox Creative Center (part of the main library and home to River Market Books & Gifts, and Bookends Cafe).

Who's Watching Who?

The Little Rock Zoo has a new exhibit, Penguin Point, featuring penguins from South Africa. There is both above water viewing and underwater viewing (as shown). This was a big hit with the kids...and I think the penguins enjoyed the socializing just as much!

The exhibit is affiliated with SANCCOB (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds), a site to check out if you're interested in the rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, oiled and orphaned sea birds.

I Saw Stars

Just for fun:
Click here to read about & listen to American jazz singer Etta Jones (not to be confused with Etta James) who sang a song entitled, I Saw Stars.

Yogurt Mountain

This shot was taken over the weekend. I took my girl out for a frozen yogurt treat at Yogurt Mountain after ballet class. It's a do-it-yourself yogurt shop on Chenal Parkway with a variety of flavors and toppings, much like Orange Leaf. You pay by the weight, so you have to be careful not to overload your cup with goodies.
Marshmallows are light and fluffy, right?!

Big Orange

We checked out Big Orange - a new burger joint in the Chenal Promenade shopping plaza. The burgers & fries are excellent, but you've got to try my personal favorite - the curried falafel and lentil patty with tzatziki and sriracha. Delicious!

I also love the decor. A combination of modern streamline and 50s retro. With a touch of orange =)
